Long Beach, California Aug 6, 2025 (Issuewire.com) - Pools of Hope, in partnership with the College Square Neighborhood Association, is proud to present its 10th Annual Free Back-to-School Event on Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 6801 Long Beach Blvd, Long Beach, CA 90805. This milestone event continues a decade-long tradition of helping local families prepare for the school year with confidence and care.
With nearly 70% of Long Beach Unified School District students qualifying for free or reduced lunch, and the average cost of school supplies now exceeding $890 per child (National Retail Federation, 2024), this free event addresses an urgent need in the community.
Attendees will receive backpacks, school supplies, free food from Hot Dog on a Stick and Kona Ice, groceries, and access to local community resources. Youth ages 517 can also enjoy free swim access, providing both support and summer fun before school starts.
We know how stressful back-to-school season can be, especially for families facing financial challenges, said Debra Shelton, President of College Square Neighborhood Association. This event is all about giving children what they need to succeed and letting them have some fun before school starts.
For years, Pools of Hope has shown up for the community beyond the pool, said Patricia Dixon, Executive Director of Pools of Hope. Our back-to-school event reflects our commitment to whole-life wellness and the belief that every child deserves a strong, supported start.
In addition to school supplies, food, and groceries, the event will offer free asthma screenings, a vital service given Long Beachs high rates of childhood asthma and environmental health disparities.
Thanks to the support of partners including Congresswoman Nanette Baragán, the City of Long Beach, Long Beach Health & Human Services, Los Angeles County, Marathon Los Angeles Refinery, The Nonprofit Partnership, City of Long Beach Community Development, the Port of Long Beach, and other generous sponsors, this annual tradition continues to grow in impact and reach.
